Hey everyone!
Today I have a swatch and review of the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Smoldering Satin. I saw a few posts about this online and swatched it in Sephora, but wasn't sure the formula would actually hold up without being a glittery mess. I ended up reading a few reviews praising the formula and that was enough for me to try it out.
These are a mix of glitter and eyeshadow suspended in a liquid medium, with some shades having a clear to sheer base (making it a great eyeshadow topper) and others having a more opaque base (for wearing on its own). Glitter is typically a very finicky product and loose glitter especially so. This seems to avoid most of the mess by having it mixed in one product.
The Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadows are $24.00 for 4.5 mL/0.153 oz. You can get them at Nordstrom, Sephora, Stila, and ULTA.
Smoldering Satin is described as a "deep tan with silver sparkle"
Stila says:
- "This brilliantly long-wearing sparkle eye shadow combines the perfect mix of pearl and glitter to lavish eyes with incredible luster and shimmer. With its uniquely lightweight, water-infused texture, Glitter & Glow glides on effortlessly, then dries down smoothly, locking in maximum sparkle with minimal fallout, for eyes with a real "wow!" factor.
The formula feels like your typical liquid eyeshadow at first but it's got a ton of shine and glow from the glitter. I like to apply it using the doefoot onto my eyelid and blend it out gently using my fingers. It layers well on top of cream and powder eyeshadows, especially if you want to use it in the middle of your eyelid for a "halo eye". Some of the other shades have a clear/sheer base that allows it some versatility when layering with other colors while Smoldering Satin has a more opaque base that works well on its own.
When it comes to its wear/longevity/fallout, I was pleased to see that the "minimum fallout" claim held true. Yes, you will still get some fallout, but honestly after an 8 hour wear I counted less than 10 individual pieces of glitter on my undereye; a very impressive wear.
Fair warning for oily eyelids though, I did need to wear a primer to get a full 8 hour wear without creasing; I got 6 hours of wear without a primer but virtually the same amount of fallout
This swatch photo was taken in direct sunlight.
Conclusion:
All in all, I'm very happy with this liquid eyeshadow and I think it's worth a buy. I love that it allows you to use glitter where you want it without having to fuss with any other mixing mediums, eyelash glue, and tape to get it to last all day. Wear a primer if you have oily eyelids but don't fear that your undereye will look like you've gone to a rave.
The holiday season is coming up and this would be an amazing addition to any eye looks you're planning.
Are you a fan of glitter eyeshadows? Would you use an all in one product like this?

I have been drooling over these pretty glitter shadows. Unfortunately my super dry eyelids even with primer have a hard time with liquid shadows. But your suggestion of wearing it over, say, a cream shadow in the middle of my lid might be just the answer
ReplyDeleteGreat review. I have been debating whether I should buy this. I guess 1 won't hurt, I'll wait for the Sephora sale in Nov
ReplyDeleteI think these are so pretty but I know that I'd go nuts with the fallout. If I were younger I'd own them all!
ReplyDeleteEveryone's raving about these. I LOVE the effect though I'm afraid of fallout lol
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so SO pretty! I can totally see using a shade like this for the upcoming Holiday parties.
