Hey everyone! Today I have a review of my current favorite face mask. As the season is shifting towards the Summer months, the weather is commensurately getting warmer and warmer. To help balance my skin out without stripping it of oil, I've been using the derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask for a few weeks and I wanted to share my thoughts on the mask.

Where to Purchase: derma e, ULTA, Dermstore, Walgreens
Price: $19.50 for 1.7 oz
Do they test on animals?: The company does not test on animals.
Packaging: The Charcoal mask comes in a squeeze tube.

Formula:

Derma e says this mask is:

"a dual action formula that purges pores of deeply rooted toxins, then exfoliates away micropollutants for purely glowing skin. Ideal for oily, active or urban skin types, even safe for reactive skin (minimal ingredients and allergy-tested), use this formula once or twice a week for skin that looks dramatically fresher, healthier and purely glowing."

The claim that it helps purge your pores of deeply rooted toxins is exaggerated (you've got your liver and kidneys to do that job) but that aside, the charcoal mask does a brilliant job at balancing my skin, reducing the oiliness, and lightly exfoliating my skin thanks to the clay and charcoal. My skin is so much smoother afterwards without being dry or tight. I use it about two times a week and on my oily skin, I haven't had a problem with it drying my skin out. If you have dry skin, you might still be able to use it. Krystal/Beauty By Krystal's review has dry skin and she mentioned having good experiences using it 2-3 times a month.

You only need to apply a thin layer so it doesn't take more than 15 minutes to dry. It's honestly really cool to see progress because you'll be able to see where it's absorbing the extra oil on your skin through the clay.

It's also the easiest face mask to remove, ever. I've used many face masks before and clay-based face masks can be especially tricky to remove, requiring me to spend a few minutes scrubbing at my skin to get it all off. The Derma e mask is thankfully nothing like that; I can just splash a section of my face and in less than 30 seconds that section is clean. If you want to use the mask before you take a shower, it practically melts off your skin then. I have enlarged pores on my nose so I do have to be more careful about removing the mask there.

Here are photos of the mask before and after and so you can see where the mask absorbed more of the excess oil in my skin.

Conclusion:

If you're in the market for a new clay based face mask, you won't go wrong with trying this mask out. It's going to be excellent for balancing my oily skin during the summer months and adding a little bit of exfoliation while I do it. It's not too expensive and you get a good amount in the tube. Even if you have dry skin, you may still be able to use it a few times a month!

Are you currently using any clay masks? What are some other masks that you like to use?

I have such dry skin, I haven't tried it myself but I gave one away in a giveaway a few months ago, and it was very popular!

  2. I think charcoal masks are great for oily skin, but my skin is too dry for them.

  4. Even though my skin is more on the dry side I still find that this works for me. I don't use it often but I do use it to cleanse my pores.

  5. I've been using this mask, too, and I really like it - the best way to remove it for me is in the shower, too - I find that I make a mess at the sink, otherwise!

  6. I have oily skin and love clay masks. Sounds like charcoal masks work equally well. I have to check this out.

  7. Oily skin here, so I have always liked a good clay mask..more recently I've become obsessed with all the charcoal products. I'm masking more than ever before, just have been on a kick with all the stuff I've acquired from Sephora, but now I'm branching out from those brands, so I was happy to see this post and a brand I hadn't considered yet. :)
