The eyebrow gods have worked their magic because I think I've found my perfect eyebrow color match with the Maybelline EyeStudio Master Shape Brow Pencil in Deep Brown. There are a few other shades in the line, Blonde, Soft brown, and Auburn but Deep Brown suits me perfectly with my dark brown hair.
Here's how it looks on my brows! This is my brow with no product
Here's a light pass with a brushthrough with the attached spoolie. I know it's a subtle change but you can see the difference at the end of my brow.
Here's a heavier application with an angled brush.
The brow pencil is dual ended with a spoolie at one end and the brow pencil and this isn't a twist up pencil.
6 hours after applying it and my brows still look good, even though I have oily skin. Since the pencil is rather waxy and a little soft, it helps tame your eyebrow hairs but if you have particularly stubborn eyebrows, you may want to use a clear mascara or brow gel to set it.
I find that you can build up the pigmentation so you can get a natural oomph to your brows or a more dramatic look depending on how heavy handed you are. I will suggest though that if you're seeking a darker brow, apply it with an angled brush and skip the spoolie that comes with the pencil (the way I did it in the last picture). The bristles are short in the spoolie so you're more liable to brush out the product versus distributing it evenly in your brows. I really like the pencil because of how well it looks with my hair color and the texture of the pencil!
I should also talk about the packaging because it kind of confused me at first. When I first got it, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to sharpen it or not because the pencil looked like it was encased in a plastic shaft. Turns out though that you CAN sharpen it. I know it's been a source of confusion for some people because I myself had to look up whether I could sharpen it too. My sharpener of choice is the Covergirl sharpener, I know others have tried using high end sharpeners that haven't worked so try out Covergirl!
What's your go to brow product?
It's so great to find a product like this that works well with your coloring. Thanks for the review on this pencil. My go-to brow pencil has been the it Cosmetics pencil I got in one of my new beauty test tubes. Before that, I never really filled in my brows.
ReplyDeleteAnastasia's Highlighting Brow Kit all the way.
ReplyDeleteIf I wasn't so selectively cheap, I'd so try some Anastasia products!
DeleteThank you for clarifying if you could sharpen the pencil!!! I was stuck and looking at it like it was a foreign object!!!
ReplyDeleteme too... I actually googled the eyebrow pencil to figure that out... I thought for a second that They only give you the tip o_o
ReplyDeleteNow I know you can sharpen it. Problem is, it doesn't come with a sharpener & none of the 4 sharpeners I have work with it! Can you suggest where to get the sharpener that fits it?
ReplyDeleteWhoa that's so strange! My pencil works fine with my Covergirl sharpener, I wonder why normal sharpeners aren't working for you!
DeletePencil can be sharpen with about any pencil sharpener there is out there... I did it with an old sharpener... Jcr0wn
DeleteI love it but I cant sharpen it eiither! I have tried my Sephora sharpener and my Sue Devitt sharpener- Help!
ReplyDeleteI know it'd b another sharpener, but I've had great results with my Covergirl sharpener, maybe try to get that and see if it works for you?
DeleteI am so happy that you addressed that this eyeliner is sharpen-able. I was thinking it would be so absurd to just have a head of a 'pencil' product for the only use. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteDitto on the sharpener comments. You think they'd have addressed this in the packaging. I don't think people should have to research how to use an eyebrow pencil. Thanks for the tips.
ReplyDeleteMy pencil doesnt have a coating on it, it is made out of plastic, I have a pencil sharpener that came with my art grade graphite pencils, I tired it, it didnt work :-/ I'll pick up a covergirl pencil sharpner.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they couldnt make it twist like the eyeliner in the same product line. Very poor pakaging but a good product.
I also like the Maybelline Define A Brow brow pencil, it is in a twist tube, it has a very fine tip, its not as soft, but it has great staying power. Next time im shopping i'll pick one up. Rimmel makes a brow deal has a highlighter on one end and a wax formula on the other end i tried it last year and i liked it pretty good.
Last resort if you can't sharpen with a sharpener. I mean this is plan C. Get a knife or a blade it and try sharping it that way try four sides first like a square and then slowly give it round shape, just be careful you don't hurt your self by cutting your self that's all I got for now... Jcrown
DeleteLmao my wife asked me to google it and here I am, just sharpen it. I believed you can sharpen it with about any sharpener its just a little hard in the fact the I had lotion on my hands after rubbing my hands on my Levi's I was able to turn it like a regular penvil but of course with some hand strength. I would recommend you girls to gran eyebrow pencil with something that wont slip out like rubber or a towel etc... You get the idea but dont forget is a Lil hard so would strongly recommend you asking your hubby to bring out tbe hulk on him to sharpen it... Lol by Jcr0wn
ReplyDeleteI have a wet n' wild sharpener that works just fine with the pencil, now that I found out I can sharpen this thing! They really should have written directions for that on the back. I almost threw it out in frustration!
