Retail price may vary but I've seen it sold in my area for $10.99.
The packaging for the liner is rather luxe to me. It's a sleek silver tube that's got a bit of heft to it. The cap has an inner cover with a spring underneath to better cover the brush tip and I believe there's a ball bearing inside the pen, possibly to help keep the mixture in solution.
The brush tip is utterly amazing and the reason why I love this liner. It's rather similar to some Japanese liner tips were the brushes are "glued" together, creating a compact and tight shape without splaying. I've been using this eyeliner for at least 7 months with no splaying or lost fibers or anything like that. The liner dries fast, creating a nice line that lasts for hours and hours on end. I wore this when I was in England, outside in the rain, and this did not run at all. This by the way, dries to a semi glossy finish, not a matte finish.
As much as I love the liner, I will admit that it has its pitfalls. When you first start using it, it isn't very pigmented but I noticed that shaking it helped with that problem.
I have this liner in both Ultra Black and Deep Brown and have noticed differences between the two. I found that I was able to get solid pigmentation from the Ultra Black liner, but I'll still occasionaly have issues with the Deep Brown color.
Also, the liner is finicky because you can't draw over liner that's already been dried because the brush tip will scrape up the liner underneath. The liner only flows over skin. Another thing is that its removal can be messy. Due to its fast dry time and the formula, it doesn't "melt" under makeup remover, it flakes off instead. So you'll have to be careful about getting black specks all over your eyes and face when you remove it.
One last thing is something I noticed over months of use. A little while ago, I went to use it and I thought that the liner was drying out because it wasn't flowing as easily. It turns out that there was dried eyeliner that can sometimes collected brush and it impeded its flow. I took a bit of water to it on a qtip, scrubbed off the buildup and it applied like new afterwards. If you've been having issues with application, definitely try cleaning the brush tip!
Is it still worth the $10.99? Yes, definitely to me. The pros and easy application outweigh the cons by far. The best drugstore liquid liner I've ever used.
I hardly ever pay retail for drugstore and I think you shouldn't either! I'm appalled at how expensive most drugstore products have become (I'm looking at you L'oreal!) so I try to bargain shop when I can. Will I repurchase? Yes I will!
Have you tried out this liner?
Thanks for the review! I know you have been raving about this liner for a while now. I've been meaning to pick one up, just haven't got around to it yet!
ReplyDeleteI've been switching use between this and my Dollywink liner. I agree with you on the packing. I do like it alot. If you like this liner and you NEED to try the Dollywink liner. It's a couple dollars more but I PROMISE YOU, IT'S WORTH IT.
ReplyDeleteI've always been curious about this liner. No one has really given their opinion about it so thanks! I might go pick one up just to see.
ReplyDeleteI actually bought this eyeliner because of you! I remember seeing one of your FOTD's and thinking "wow her eyeliner looks really good I wonder what it is." I like it a lot but the only thing that bugs me is like you said, if you try to go over it again it comes off.
